Since starting my fitness journey over 25 years ago, the one thing I’ve learned is that what you focus on, improves. So if you want to develop your fitness or improve your wellbeing, focus on tracking your progress and of course, staying consistent.
To that end, today I’m sharing my 7 favorite fitness and mental wellness apps that are female-friendly and that I use daily. All of these apps have in some way, improved my life for the better. Some track progress, while others help me constantly improve my fitness level, ability to concentrate and live a happy life (and I’m not exaggerating).
Insight Timer App (Free)
I’ve used a lot of meditation apps in the past, but I tend to come back to this one as it has an amazing selection of meditations, talks, courses and even yoga classes. I also like that they offer a diverse selection of teachers and you can save your favorite meditations in a playlist. It’s kinda like the Spotify of meditation
Meditating daily has genuninely improved my life so much. As someone who periolically struggles with anxiety and also has ADHD, I find this practice to be grounding, centering and gives me a tremendous sense of peace.

The Fitbit App (Paid Device)
My Fitbit app syncs to a wearable device (a bracelet) that tracks my sleeps, heart rate and daily steps taken. I’m absolutely obsessed with it. Doing a ton of walking is the best form of exercise (in my opinion) so I aim for 10K steps per day.
Y’all know I’m also obsessed with getting lots of sleep, and while it doesn’t always work out, I aim for 8 hours per night. Every morning, the first thing I do is track my sleep score on this app. It’s like a little personal challenge I have with myself to always be improving my sleep quality.
I used to have a Fitbit Ulta and that did a great job of tracking my vitals for years before it finally died on me. Now I wear the Fitbit Charge 4 and I love it.
BTW – if you love a little healthy competition, sync up with your friend’s Fitbit accounts so you can track who gets the most steps in a week. Being pretty competitive, this always helps me get more steps in.

Fittrack App (Paid Device)
This is another app that I check regularly. It syncs with my bathroom scale to give me tons of data about my current health markers, from body fat percentage and muscle mass to subcutaneous and visceral fat levels. It also provides a BMR, or Basal Metabolic Rate, which tells me exactly how many calories my body needs just to function every day.
Beachbody On Demand App ($8.99 per month)
I rave about Beachbody on Demand because I’ve been using it religiously for the last 6 years. It’s the most comprehensive online workout platform on the market, with over 700 workouts for all fitness levels, several nutrition programs, a meditation program and even a healthy cooking show.
If you want to get fit, lose weight and feel amazing every day, hands down, it’s the best $100 you’ll ever spend in my opinion.

Alo Moves App
If you’re not a fan of lifting weights or doing a ton of cardio, but you love a sweaty yoga, Pilates or barre class. If that’s you, then you will LOVE Alo Moves. Next to Beachbody On Demand, I think this is the best online app for fitness, specifically geared toward mat-based workouts.
They also have traditional strength and cardio classes as well as TONS of meditation classes, but their mat workouts makes them stand out from all the competitors in this space. It’s worth every cent of the membership cost.

The Lose It! App (Free)
I’m a big fan of tracking macronutrients, rather than just counting calories. Tracking macros gives you a better sense of what what you’re eating, and whether or not it’s working for you.
It’s also much better for customizing your nutrition to reach your goals faster. For example, when I started tracking macros, I discovered that anything more than 100g of carbs a day was too much for me if I was trying to lose fat. If muscle gain is my goal, I know I need at least 140g of protein a day.
How do I know this so specifically? Because I’m able to track muscle growth and fat loss on my FitTrack device.

The Tapping Solution App (Free + premium version available)
I discovered tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) through a friend of mine about 4 years ago, and I’ve been doing it ever since. Tapping on meridian points on the body while repeating affirmations may sound crazy, but it’s so cathartic and healing. If you struggle with anxiety, depression or emotional trauma, EFT is worth a try.

The Tapping Solution App provides a number of 10 minute sessions where you listen to someone guide you through a tapping experience, targeting a specific emotion such as anxiety, insecurity, loneliness, etc.
I have found this method to be particularly effective, and it’s especially helpful if you find meditation to be too difficult. The app provides several free sessions, but you have to pay for the upgrade (I’ve done it in the past).
EFT has helped me heal from some pretty heavy stuff in the past. I find that I feel lighter, happier and more calm after every session. Give it a try – you won’t regret it!

Wahoo App (Paid device)
This is an app that syncs with my heart rate monitor. I use it to track my workouts because I like to know that I’m training in my fat burning zone. This ensures that I’m investing the right amount of exertion to reach my fitness goals.
The Wahoo App also syncs with my Beachbody on Demand App, so I can see exactly how many calories I’m burning as I workout (which is super motivating!).
So that’s it!
These are all my personal favorites because they’re easy to use and very helpful at building a tracking healthy habits.
